Major fire breaks out in Assam secretariat, documents destroyed

A fire broke out in the third floor of the high security Assam Secretariat in the Dispur area in Guwahati on Wednesday night, official sources said on Thursday.

The fire broke out in the Water Rescources Department on the third floor of Block B of the secretariat and several files have been destroyed in the blaze, sources said.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained and forensic department personnel are investigating the case, sources said.

The blaze was brought under control by the use of fire control devices installed within the secretariat premises, sources added.
