After a PIL questioning the state government and transport commissioner on renewing the permits for 26,000 additional cabs was filed by the Taxi Chalak Malak Sena yesterday, both respondents will now have to file a reply for the alleged monopoly of the autorickshaws plying within the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation.

The PIL asks the court to direct the transport department to take action against the autorickshaw owners and operators currently operating within the corporation’s limit, for not fitting approved and fully-functional meters.

The PIL alleges that these autos don’t go by meter rates and charge excessive rates. The respondents have been given a week’s time to file their reply.
