Maharashtra government has decided to make domicile certificate compulsory for admissions in professional courses such as architecture, MBA, pharmaceutical and engineering, from this academic year (2011-12).
"It is mandatory to submit domicile, caste, income and if need be, creamy layer certificates while applying for the central admission process," the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra State, said in a release.
The state government wants to give priority to local students, hence the decision was taken, Mantralaya sources said. Other states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu already have the provision, they said.
