Maharashtra govt committed for Ambedkar memorial in Mumbai: CM

Chavan said that the state government has made a provision to give compensation for the land to the Centre.

Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Sunday said that the state government is committed to raise a memorial of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on the entire 12 acres of plot in Mumbai.

He said that the state government has made a provision to give compensation for the land to the Centre. He was speaking at a distribution ceremony of Babasaheb Ambedkar Samajbhushan awards here.

"The industrial reservation would be lifted and the reservation for memorial is tabled in the house. The rules of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) would be made flexible for the memorial," he said.

Great leaders like Shahu Maharaj, Mahatama Phule and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar had devoted their lives to eradicate inequality and the government is trying to follow their principle, chief minister Prithviraj Chavhan said today.

"Maharashtra is the only state in the country, which has distributed funds on the basis of the percentage of various communities," he said

"All the recipients of Samajbhushan award should work as government ambassadors and take the government schemes to the beneficiaries" he said.

Chief minister said that the state government is committed to construct Dr Ambedkar's memorial on 12 acres of land in Mumbai.

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said that the provision of 4,500 crtores had been made for the social justice department in the state.

Seventy-one people and the representatives of the organisations were given the awards and Karmveer Padmashree Dadasaheb Bhausaheb Krushnarao Gaikwad awards.
