Maharashtra got Rs84,958-crore FDI proposals during 1991-2010: Survey

Maharashtra received 4,221 number of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) proposals amounting to Rs84,958 crore during the period August 1991-September 2010, the State Legislature was informed today.

The state economic survey, tabled in the legislature, said 42% of these proposals were completed and 7% are under execution, which constituted 52% and 9% of investment respectively.

The US and Mauritius are the two prominent countries investing in industrial sector of Maharashtra with 16 and 14% share respectively in total FDI, the survey said.

IT industry and financial services groups continued to receive sizeable FDI proposals in the state, it said.

The state has adopted the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) policy with effect from February 10, 2006, it said. The state has received 233 SEZ proposals up to November 30, 2011, the survey said. Of these, 116 SEZs were approved by the Central Government and 63 of them are notified, it said.
