Even as the row over the implementation of a single national entrance test for engineering institutes across the country from 2013 seems to have ended, the state government’s unclear policy over admission to engineering institutes in the state has students confused.

A common national entrance test for admission into engineering colleges across the country proposed by the  Union HRD ministry has finally been approved with some alterations and will be implemented in 2013.

The IITs have declared that they will be considering the score of advanced test conducted by them for shortlisted candidates after the main examination where a candidate will have to be among top 20% scorers of their respective boards to be eligible for seat in IIT.

However, lakhs of students are waiting for the state government to announce how engineering admissions will be conducted in the state.

“There was so much discussion about admission into IITs and NITs. What about admission to regular engineering colleges?  Like me, there are many others who are focused on admission to regular such colleges, admission to which was traditionally done through the state CET and AIEEE score,” said Jheenal Shah, a Kandivli resident.
