The recent leptospirosis outbreak in Sindhudurg will not have any bearing on Mumbai, said experts. For the last two weeks, the Kankavli region of Sindhudurg district and parts of Raigad have experienced an outbreak of leptospirosis.
“Rainfall is essential for the spread of leptospirosis in any region. The disease has spread in the Konkan region because of the heavy, off-season rainfall there. Unless it rains in the city, the chance of any such outbreak is nil,” said Dr Pravin Shingare, joint director of Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER).
