Protesters said they met authorities of Patkar College and asking them to immediately suspend Prof Rahul Sarangale for sending her lewd messages.
“The college has accepted some of our demands. Instead of dismissing the teacher right away, the college has agreed to suspend him till an inquiry is conducted to look into the matter,” said Pradeep Sawant, a senate member from Yuva Sena. However, despite repeated attempts to contact them, the college authorities were unavailable for comment. The party also met Mumbai University vice chancellor Rajan Welukar, and the Women’s Development cell to look into the issue. “The authorities should take strict action against such people, and make an example, so that others will not dare to follow,” said Sawant.
Her problems started on June 11, when the results showed she had failed in physics. The girl alleged that in a series of SMSes, the lecturer asked her whether she watched porn, and whether she had sex.
API of Goregoan, Pramod Roman, said: “An FIR has been registered on Wednesday after the complaint was filed by the girl. We have booked the professor under Section 509 of the IPC for an act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman. we will check all the messages by the professor and will take stern action against him. At the moment he is absconding and we are trying to trace him.”
