Lack of speed breakers on the busy JD Road in Mulund is giving residents nightmares as motorists zoom past recklessly, putting lives in danger.
JD Road, also known as ACC, is a busy one with a school, mosque and several residential towers located along side it. The road is used by scores of motorists to take to a flyover that connects east side of the suburb to west.
“There are only two speed breakers on the road. However, more speed breakers are required on the stretch from the school towards the flyover as reckless motorists pose threat to lives of locals,” a resident said, requesting anonymity.
Adding to the woes of local residents, pavements on both sides of the roads are built in an improper manner. “One gets to see vehicles parked along the road. So when you don’t have proper pavement, people are forced to walk on road endangering their lives as motorists zoom past” he added.
Another resident, who did not wish to be named, demanded a speed breaker near the flyover, located close to the railway station. “Motorists coming from Mulund (E) and turning on their right at the bridge-end to take ACC Road are in danger. Hence, both ends of the flyover too need speed breakers,” she added.
When contacted, PM More, senior PI (traffic), Mulund, said he’ll look into the matter if the residents approach the traffic department. “We will forward the demand to our seniors,” More added.
As per norm, the traffic department moves proposal to the BMC to build speed breakers at spots suggested by the police.
“We will build speed breakers wherever police recommend them,” assistant municipal commissioner (T ward) Dr Sangita Hasnale said.
