Parents of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, who died in the terror attack on Nariman House in 2008, are likely to plead their case in the high court for the possession of the Nariman House property, on November 25.

The possession of the property is at present with the Receiver of the Bombay high court, following a dispute in the Chabad organisation.

The hearing comes close on the heels of the second anniversary of the terrorist attack.

The Bombay high court took possession of the Nariman House property after a dispute between the local caretaker and the Chabad Lubavitch movement that has its headquarters in New York.

Not long ago, Chabad Lubavitch movement officials had circulated mails with the subject line ‘Nariman House plan announced’. The mail included details of the work carried out on each floor and its final outcome.

Local caretakers were unhappy that “credit for the project had been taken away” by the New York headquarters, but did not criticise it openly.

Caretakers said that the funds for the work carried out till now were from the money raised by the grandparents of baby Moshe, the sole surviving member of the family.
Rabbi Gavriel and his wife had built the Chabad House to provide Kosher food services for Jews coming to the city.

Baby Moshe is currently with his grandparents in Israel. Although Nariman House was shut, Chabad services were run by the movement from an undisclosed location.

When DNA contacted the local caretaker on Friday, he repeated that “the property will be with the grand parents as they had a stronger case and the local Jews were supporting them.”

When contacted, Chabad services, run by the Chabad Lubavitch movement, said “celebrations are on and we cannot talk till Saturday night”.

Mails sent to the public relations person of the movement did not get any replies.
