Leader of opposition Eknath Khadse levelled allegations of corruption and cheating against social justice minister Shivajirao Moghe during his tenure as transport minister nearly a decade ago.

After a case was registered against Moghe, the court had directed police to lodge a first information report against him. Khadse demanded the resignation of the minister on ethical grounds.

Khadse alleged that the minister had taken Rs42 lakh from Ayanuddin Solanki to allot him the DEd and adivashi ashramshala in Yavatmal.

The deal was struck by the Moghe’s personal assistant Devanand Pawar and nephew Vijay Moghe. Solanki was even the receipt for the payment. Khadse alleged that the receipt was on the letterhead of the minister.

“Rs12 lakh was taken for the adivashi ashramshala. The second deal was the sanction of a DEd college in Yavatmal against the bribe of Rs30 lakh,” he said. “Despite repeated follow ups and assurances in response, the educational institutions were not allotted to the complainant.”

According to Khadse, Solanki recently moved the local court, which had directed the police to register case against the minister under section 420 of IPC.

He said that the complainant moved court only after he realised that the false promises were being made by the minister’s aide.

The minister has rubbished all allegations and added that he would retire from politics  if anything was proved. “The letter which has my letterhead is a forged. There was no such scheme existing at that time,” he said in the house.

He also questioned the ten-year delay in lodging the complaint. Moghe added that the complainant was a known criminal. Khadse said that every accused claim to be innocent.

“Let the trial be conducted in the case, but the minister should resign on ethical grounds,” he said.
