A day after a gold trader and his employee were stabbed to death by four robbers in Malad, around 500 jewellers, including those from the Bishnoi community, lay the two bodies on the road and brought traffic to a standstill on SV Road at Malad (West) for three hours.

The protesters shouted slogans against the police and demanded security for jewellers.

Mumbai commissioner of police Arup Patnaik and joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy rushed to the spot and only after they gave an assurance that the case would be handled by the crime branch did the protesters relent.

“We have started investigations and are checking on gang members who are absconding or are in jail. We will compile the data and catch the killers soon,” Roy told the protesters.

“The road was blocked from 11.30am to 2.30pm until Patnaik and Roy assured us the case will be solved. Later, the bodies were handed over to their respective families,” said Anil Parmar, a relative of Parmar.

On Wednesday evening, four unidentified robbers stabbed to death Paras Parmar, 39, and his employee Hemant Bishnoi, 32, on the Malad foot over-bridge on Wednesday evening, before making away with 3kg of gold.

“I am sure someone had tipped off the robbers. Even that person should be caught and tried as a murder accused,” said a relative of Parmar.

Parmar lived in Krishna Height building in Raheja Colony at Malad (East), while Bishnoi lived in Bhayendar (West). He was studying chartered accountancy and had joined Parmar last month.

Parmar's relative Sumit, who owns a jewellery shop near Malad station, said: “When I heard about the robbery, I rushed there and drove them in my car to the nearby Ashoka Hospital. But, they had lost a lot of blood and died en route.”

Parmar was to return home early for his elder son Mohit's birthday on Wednesday. His wife Rekha was shopping for gifts at a mall when the news of his death reached us,” said another relative.
