Jedhe Chowk traffic eases after new plan

Implementation of a new traffic plan at Jedhe Chowk in Swargate has brought relief in vehicle movement on the busy crossroads in the city on Tuesday.  The closing of nationalised banks and industries in response to a nationwide bandh call on Tuesday also helped in smooth traffic at the area.

Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) officials have changed the entry and exit points of their state transport (ST) buses at Swargate ST depot from Tuesday in order to decongest traffic at Jedhe Chowk.

Swargate ST depot senior manager Vijay Divate said, “A total of 1,640 buses enter and leave the Swargate ST depot premises every day. With the change in entry and exit points of buses at the depot, nearly 1,100 buses will not be going to Jedhe Chowk. The new arrangement might ease the traffic situation at the chowk. As per the changed plan, 370 buses are entering the depot using the Satara Road Gate, while 1,200 buses are using the gate on Shankarsheth Road.”

Traffic inspector (planning) Vijay Palsule said, “We carried out an encroachment drive with the help of Pune Municipal Corporation at the gates of Swargate ST depot on Tuesday morning. This exercise has helped in the smooth movement of ST buses at Swargate depot.”

As per the official, traffic congestion was a common feature at Jedhe Chowk and Vega Centre. The new plan at Swargate ST depot has helped in easing traffic flow at these spots.
