The family members of Lata Rajne spent some anxious moments on Friday as the heavy traffic jam on the Eastern Express Highway delayed her shifting from Alibaug Civil Hospital to KEM Hospital. Rajne, a resident of Alibaug, had consumed poison on Monday and her condition was critical.

Continuous downpour and the NCP rally at Somaiyya Grounds resulted in a heavy traffic jam on the Eastern Express Highway.

“We had taken her to Alibaug Civil Hospital but since she was critical, they asked us to shift her to KEM Hospital immediately. They had also sent a doctor with us to monitor her condition,” Lata’s husband Mithun said.

According to Rajne’s family, Lata had consumed poison on Monday. After three days of treatment, the Alibaug Civil Hospital decided to shift her to KEM Hospital.

Dr RK Singh, the doctor who is treating Lata said, “She is still critical. It is a case of Organophosphorus pesticides poisoning. Presently we have kept her in the ward but will have to shift her to ICU as there is no improvement in her condition.”

Rajne’s ambulance was stuck for nearly two hours on the Eastern Express Highway.

“We had a slow moving traffic right from Pen but the ambulance driver knew some inside road and so we didn’t face much problem. As we touched the Eastern Express Highway, there was chockablock traffic,” said Mithun. The family reached the hospital at 4pm.
