The defence in the Neeraj Grover murder case cross-examined the investigating officer (IO) in a sessions court on Wednesday.
During the cross examination, defence lawyer Wahab Khan asked the IO if there was any evidence to show that when Emile Mathew, co-accused Maria Susairaj’s boyfriend, arrived in the city on May 7, Grover was still alive. “The officer said no,” Khan said. It was the prosecution’s case that Grover was killed on May 7, after Mathew found Grover in Susairaj’s bedroom.
Khan said that when the IO was asked about Mathew’s transfer to Mumbai from Cochin, he said that three officers were sent on May 20, 2008 and they returned with the accused on May 22, 2008. However, he was unaware of the expenses incurred on the transfer.
Khan further said that the IO submitted in the court that the officers were sent to enquire with Mathew about Grover being missing. “But the letter produced in court showed that the officers were sent with an intention to arrest him,” Khan said.
