Unfazed by the arrest in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) scam and debacle of Congress in the recent assembly polls, tainted MP Suresh Kalmadi wore a confident face when he said that he would be contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from Pune.
“I am innocent and will contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Pune,” Kalmadi told the media at Lohegaon airport on Friday. He added that he would also have to check for the technicalities involved in his plans to contest the election, since the case against him is pending.
Kalmadi, who attended the meeting of the airport advisory committee at Lohegaon before addressing the press conference, however, resisted answering other questions about political issues.
“I am here to attend the AAC meeting. I am not going to talk on anything other than that,” he said, when the media asked about his role in the mayoral polls.
But he was all political when asked if he was struggling to stage a comeback in active politics after the controversy in which he got mired. “Yes. I was out of mainstream for many months. You all know the reason for it very well. Now step by step I am coming back into action,” he said.
Kalmadi did not miss the opportunity to emphasis that he was keenly interested in developing air connectivity for Pune. “Since I was absent here, I could not participate in the developments. But now I will take keen interest and ensure that the pending work is expedited,” he said.
Throughout the conference, Kalmadi referred to his discussions with the chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on various issues like Chakan airport.
He also said that for the next one month he would camp in Delhi and will hold discussions with the defence ministry and civil aviation ministry over various pending issues involving air connectivity of Pune.
