A confidential report by the Mumbai police and the state intelligence department (SID) has predicted a hung verdict for the upcoming civic polls. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray will end up being the kingmaker, the report said.
The survey found that the Shiv Sena, Bharatiya Janata Party and the Republican Party of India alliance will get between 92 and 100 seats while the Congress-National Congress Party combine will get 85-90 seats. The MNS is expected to get approximately 30 seats in the battle for 227 seats.
“Our findings show none of the parties will get a clear majority, but the MNS will play a crucial role in deciding which party comes to power,” a source from the special branch said. The report has been submitted to the home department.
Senior police officials said the survey was conduced after the parties announced its list of candidates. “Each seat is studied in detail and the candidates are analysed. The party they belong to, their standing in the area, opponents and voter mood were taken into account before reaching a conclusion,” the officer said.
The report is prepared by the special branch for Mumbai and the SID for the rest of the state. It is taken seriously in the political circles and is valued tremendously as the report is prepared by the police with help from ground intelligence.
