Hinjewadi suspects also robbed couples in Pune

According to the police, while all of them have criminal records, one of them was slapped with the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999 in the past.

The five youths arrested on Friday by the anti-extortion cell of the city police for robbing three students of Symbiosis at Hinjewadi at gunpoint on February 26, revealed that they targeted couples in Paud and Mulshi dam areas. Four citizens have approached the police to lodge fresh cases against them.

The suspects are Mangesh Manik Kanchan (25) of Uruli Kanchan, Sandeep Rajaram Ghode (21) of Saswad, Daulat Gopal Parge alias Dawlya (25) of Pargewadi in Haveli taluka, Satish Kisan Kurhade (24) of Waphgaon and Sachin Maruti Madane (25) of Phaltan.

Senior inspector Sachin Sawant, in-charge of the cell, told DNA, “The suspects targeted the couples seated in isolated areas in Paud and Bhushi dam. On Sunday, four such citizens approached us. The gang was formed in Yerawada Central Prison.”
The police recovered two countrymade pistols, eight live cartridges, one chopper, one iron pipe, sticks, chilli powder, four mobile phones and a car, totally valued at Rs2.73 lakh from them.
The police said Kanchan was the kingpin and has allegedly committed robberies, burglaries, kidnapping and murder.

According to the police records, while all of them have criminal records, Madane was slapped with the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), 1999 in the past.

Eight bikes gutted

Eight motorcycles were gutted early on Sunday at Siddhanath Sankul Society in Mahatma Phule Peth. They were parked in the society parking area.

A society resident, Venu Gopal Ramesh Keramkonda (33) lodged a complaint at Khadak police station. According to the police, the fire also damaged the sewage line and electrical wiring of the building. The residents estimated the damage at Rs2.51 lakh.

The police said the incident took place at around 3.15 am. Some society residents woke up after smoke entered their bedrooms.

They added that the suspects could have set ablaze the motorcycles after taking out petrol from one of them.
