Gold worth Rs65L stolen on Mumbai local train

Gold ornaments worth Rs65 lakh belonging to a wholesale jewellery dealer were stolen by unidentified persons on Monday afternoon when the dealer was travelling in the first class compartment of a Titwala-bound local from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.

Bipin Gokaru, 29, a partner of Shine Gold firm located at Abdul Rehman street in South Mumbai was carrying gold ornaments weighing 3.8kg in a leather bag.

When he boarded the train, there were only five commuters in the coach. He got the widow seat and kept his bag besides him. He fell asleep when the train left Byculla station.  When he woke up at Bhandup, the bag was missing.

He alighted at Mulund and later lodged a complaint at the Kurla police station.

"We have registered a complaint of theft. A manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits," said senior police inspector Dilip Gore of Kurla railway police station.
