Tired of waiting for 43 years, villagers of Ghivli, situated near Tarapur atomic power project, have decided to present their woes to prime minister Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil.

A villager, Madhukar Keni, has written a 12-page letter to the top authorities saying that the TAPS and the All India Radiation Dumping Ground Project violate all the international security norms and the lives of people in the Ghivli village could be in grave danger if the village is not rehabilitated.

The letter has informed the prime minister that there has been a decline in fish production in the sea close to the project.

“It has become difficult to get enough fish even in the waters to the depth of 30 to 40 meters near the project area,” the letter said.

Ridiculing the claims of providing amenities and rehabilitation, the letter has accused the authorities of flouting rehabilitation norms. “We would request you to conduct an inquiry and submit a report about the following: How many houses were rehabilitated?  What is the name on the board of the rehabilitated village?” the letter said.
