Get payment information on Adarsh flats: Bombay High Court

The Bombay High Court on Monday directed the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) to inform it how much money each of the members, who booked flats in the infamous Adarsh Society, paid in cash and by cheque. It was also told to complete the missing files case at the earliest and not limit its probe to junior ranking officers.

The HC also asked the agency to include all those who had handled files pertaining to the society from 1999 to 2010.

A division bench of Justice Ranajan Desai and Justice RG Ketkar said, “The main attempt of this probe is to decide the motive behind the crime and who benefited from it. The agency should not wait for the forensic reports of the polygraph test conducted on the officers. But complete the probe at the earliest. 

The court’s remarks came after YP Singh, counsel for petitioner Simpreet Singh, pointed out that the four persons arrested by the CBI in connection with the Adarsh missing file case were granted bail after the agency failed to file its chargesheet within the stipulated 60-day period.

“We want the CBI to submit the names of the 42 witnesses’ statements they have recorded and submit a confidential report before us within four weeks,” the HC said. Singh further pointed out to the court that the CBI is giving preferential treatment to some big personalities like Union ministers Sushil Kumar Shinde and Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Additional Solicitor General Darius Khambata, appearing for CBI, submitted a status report to the court and said the agency is questioning all persons involved in the scam.
