The court of judicial magistrate (first class) Swarup Bose on Tuesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants (NBWs) against the six suspects wanted in the German Bakery  blast case.

The prosecution on Monday moved an application seeking NBWs against the six after the court handed over the copy of 2,405-page chargesheet to the alleged mastermind in the blast case Mirza Himayat Inayat Baig.

The blast that took place on February 13 this year claimed 17 lives, including five foreigners, and injured 56 others.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had arrested Baig on September 7 from the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Stand in Camp area of the city.

But the six suspects including Ahmed Siddibappa alias Yasin Bhatkal, Riyaz Bhatkal, Mohsin Ismail Chaudhari, Iqbal Ismail Shahbadri alias Iqbal Bhatkal, Fayyaz Kagzi alias Zulfiqar Fayyaz Ahmed and Sayyad Zabiuddin Sayyad Zakiuddin alias Zabi Ansari are absconding.

Fake stamp paper scam: Court frames charges against cops
A special court on Tuesday framed charges against deputy commissioner of police (ATS), Pradeep Sawant and senior police inspector Vashid Andhale for their alleged involvement in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam masterminded by
Abdul Karim Telgi.

Special judge SN Sardesai framed the charges against the two police officers under sections 3 (punishment for organised crime) 2 and 24 (punishment for public servants failing in the discharge of their duties) of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), 1999 and 120 (b) (stands for punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

While Sawant is attached to the state ATS, Andhale is posted to the Malwani police station, both in Mumbai.

The court also ordered the defence lawyers of Sawant and Andhale to submit a list of witnesses for cross examination. So far, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recorded statements of 15 witnesses in the case.

The defence counsels need to submit the list of witnesses out of these 15 for cross examination by December 15.

The CBI on Saturday urged the court to frame additional charges against 18 suspects, including top police officers, politicians and others in the fake stamp paper scam.

The court observed that the 18 suspects were already facing charges of alleged conspiracy and there was no need to frame additional charges against them.

Telgi had recorded his confessional statement before a local court in Bangalore recently. The recording was in pursuance of the order passed by the MCOCA court to record the mastermind’s confession in three cases.

The Chatuhshrungi police on Tuesday arrested seven persons in connection with the murder of Sunny Dharampal Tusam (25) at Bhosalenagar on Monday evening.

Sunny’s uncle Mahipal Tusam had lodged an FIR at the Chatuhshrungi police station regarding the matter.

The suspects have been identified as Sandeep Raghunath Salegaonkar (26), Shailesh Pardeshi (19), Nitin Chaphalkar (28), Uttam alias Shridhar Salegaonkar (22), all residents of Chapekar Nagar; Umesh Sudam Salegaonkar (25) of Sus Road, Ravindra Maruti Salegaonkar (31) and Arun Salegaonkar, both from

Sunny, who was attacked with sharp weapons by three of the suspects, sustained serious injuries on his head and hands.

Police admitted Sunny to Sancheti Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 9 pm.

They also alleged that police inspector Mahadev Chavan had misbehaved with them. The police, however, arrested the suspects by 3.30 pm on Tuesday. Further probe is on.

Nayana Pujari case: Discharge plea of co-accused dismissed
The discharge application of co-accused Mahesh Thakur in the Nayana Pujari gang rape and murder case was dismissed by principal district judge Madan Joshi on Tuesday.

Thakur had submitted his discharge application through his lawyer Biju Aloor. Aloor had argued before the court that there was no evidence of rape against Thakur and that he had not  been
identified  in  the identification parade.

However, special public prosecutor Harshad Nimbalkar had opposed the application and argued that there was sufficient evidence against Thakur.

Dismissing Thakur’s plea, the court observed that Thakur had threatened the victim and acquired her ATM card to note down her pin number. The court also observed that Thakur had withdrawn money from the ATM.
