The Additional Sessions Judge NP Dhote adjourned the framing of charges against alleged mastermind Mirza Himayat Baig in the German Bakery bomb blast case till July 2.

The blast had killed 17 people and injured 64 at the German Bakery in Koregaon Park on February 13, 2010. Baig (29) was produced before the court at 11.30 am.

The State Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Pune unit, had filed the draft charges against Baig on March 18, 2011. Baig, along with five others who are absconding, including Mohsin Choudhary, Yasin Bhatkal, Riyaz Bhatkal, Faiyaz Kagzi and Zabiuddin Ansari, is charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, The Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 2004.

On Saturday, defence lawyer A Rehman argued that there was no mention of the alleged conspiracy that had taken place at Colombo in Sri Lanka, 2008, in the draft charge by the ATS, which has been mentioned by ATS in the chargesheet.

Special public prosecutor Raja Thakare said, “It is immaterial whether the mention of particular sections were there in the remand application or not.”
