His principles of truth, a simple life, service to poor may have lost their sheen amidst the political class but they strike a perfect chord with youngsters, especially students who have a clearer vision for their people, society and nation.

Hundreds of city school and college students took part in beach clean-up drives after Ganpati visarjan on Sunday. What inspired them to clear the filth left by their elders? NCC cadet of Hansraj Morarji School, Andheri, Luqman Charolia, 14, who was among 100 cadets who helped in cleaning the beach at Juhu Chowpatty said, “Gandhiji wanted his followers to do all their chores, including cleaning work, themselves. He opposed class divide in our society. We must follow his words to create a better society.”

Cleaning the beach is “cool”, said students of JM Patel College of Commerce at Goregaon. Students of various schools in Govandi will conduct a ‘Green Rally for Saaf Aur Sundar Govandi’ on Tuesday, in which 500 students and teachers are expected to participate.

Students of Jhujhunwala College and their principal will be cleaning the station road of Ghatkopar on Tuesday to mark Gandhi Jayanti.

Fifty MBA students of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) are working on many social projects under ‘Ehsaas’ throughout the ‘Joy of Giving Week,’ which started on Monday. They have collected Rs 68,000 from 180 students and faculty members of NMIMS. They bought 302 school bags with the collection, of which 97 will be distributed among children at St Francis School at Borivali, which houses 90 orphans. The remaining will be distributed at other NGOs in the coming days.
