Four held for robbing youth in Pune

A gang of four robbers was arrested by the Hinjewadi police on Monday for allegedly offering a lift to a youth and robbing him to the tune of Rs5,950 at Wakad octroi post on Sunday night.

A gang of four robbers was arrested by the Hinjewadi police on Monday for allegedly offering a lift to a youth and robbing him to the tune of Rs5,950 at Wakad octroi post on Sunday night.

The suspects have been identified as Tanaji Jadhav (25), Sharad Chavan (22), Mahadev Chavan (21) and Santosh Jadhav (20).

They have been booked under relevant sections of robbery, criminal intimidation and act done by them with the intention to rob Rakesh Kundal (29), a resident of Anantnagar of Sinhagad Road.

Kundal works as a salesman in a Mumbai-based company and had come to Pune to spend time with his family and was returning to Mumbai on Sunday night.

The suspects were arrested by the Haveli police station in a dacoity case red handed and during investigation, they found a debit card of Punjab Bank belonging to complainant Kundal. Assuming that Kundal is a suspect, they went to interrogate him and found that he had been robbed.

Sub-inspector Subhash Jadhav of Hinjewadi police station told DNA, “The kingpin of the gang is Tanaji and while other suspects are his cousins. Tanaji has two cases registered against him with Talegaon and Chakan police stations. The victim on Sunday, around 10.20 pm, was waiting at Wakad octroi post for transport to go to Mumbai. Tanaji, driving an Indica car, approached him and offered him a lift. Kundale sat in the car. After travelling for 5 km, the suspects pounced on him and threatened him at knifepoint. They robbed his mobile, bag and cash and threw him out of the car.’’

Student held for stealing 2-wheelers
A 19-year-old polytechnic student has been arrested by crime branch for alleged involvement in stealing two-wheelers from various parts of the city. While the police claim to have recovered nine two-wheelers from him, they are now looking for his associate, who allegedly taught him the tricks of the trade.

The student, Harshal Ashok Gunjal (19), a resident of Dattawadi, has been remanded in two-day police custody. Gunjal is a polytechnic stream student of a junior college on Tilak Road. His father is a gardener and he is the only son of his parents.
