City disc jockeys (DJ) will soon start singing the Shiv Sena’s tune, as the party has formed probably the country’s first DJ Federation.
The party, which has been against westernisation of Indian youth, is forming a union for DJs not only in the state but across the country. The union will also include instrument players, mimicry artistes, bartenders, bouncers, service staff, etc.
It is believed that this could be the party’s attempt to recover the ground it has lost following the exit of union leader Kiran Pawaskar, who used to handle hotel and airport unions.
“I do not think it is appropriate to connect this with Pawaskar’s exit,” said Akshay Bardapurkar, president, Maharashtra Cine and Television Sena (MCTS). He will also head the federation. “The federation is limited to pubs and five-star hotels with clubs. We are not targeting the entire hotel staff.”
According to Bardapurkar, there are around 50,000 DJs in the country. Some well-known DJs in the city, including Akbar Sami, Pearl and Jo Azavedo, have extended their support to the initiative.
“There is no licence system in this profession. Anyone who can use the software can become a DJ. This has been harming the profession. We will take up these issues, too,” said Bardapurkar.
Targeting archery team
Yuva Sena, the Sena’s youth wing, has raised objections over the selection process of Mumbai University’s archery team. Senate members of the Yuva Sena alleged that the university administration, under the influence of some people, has not sent a boys’ team in the ‘Indian’ category for the inter-university archery competition to be held on Saturday.
