Ex -Pune corporator is brain behind the Rs5 crore gold heist

Officials from the Mumbai crime branch who on December 21 nabbed the person who had fled with 23 kg of gold which he was supposed to deliver to his employer at Zaveri Bazar on Wednesday nabbed another person in this case and recovered the remaining 20 kg worth around Rs4.4 crore. The arrest of the second person in this case had revealed that the mastermind behind the heist is an ex-corporator from Pune.

Paresh Rawal, 26, was employed with the Devikrupa jewellers in Zaveri Bazar. On December 7, he was coming back from Delhi with the gold consignment but did not turn up. His employer then registered a case with the L T Marg police.

On Wednesday morning crime branch officials nabbed, Rawal’s brother Raju, 28, from the food court Mumbai Pune Express Highway.

Joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy, said, “Questioning of Rawal and his brother revealed that Amin Shaikh, an ex-corporator from Dehu Road, Pune was the mastermind of the plan. He had come to know about Rawal’s job of bringing high qunatity of gold for his employer.”

He added “Shaikh’s brother Ali was involved too and he had given Rawal Rs5000 and an ATM card for his expenses. Rawal was advised to stay in Goa for around six months till the matter settled down. Then they planned to divide the loot.”

Police on further investigation found that Shaikh had around 29 cases of murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, robbery and many other crimes registered against him.
