Ex-minister’s son indicted for attack on police station in Pune

The court framed charges against Pilaji, son of former agriculture minister Dada Jadhavrao, and 74 others in connection with attacking Saswad police station and hurting policemen on duty.

The court of additional sessions judge RM Pande on Saturday framed charges against Pilaji, alias Babaraje Sursingh Jadhavrao, son of former agriculture minister Dada Jadhavrao, and 74 others in connection with attacking Saswad police station and hurting policemen on duty.

According to the prosecution, between June 21 and 22, 2005, Babaraje and the other accused, demanding arrest of attackers of one of their activists, gathered unlawfully in front of the Saswad police station with deadly weapons and attacked police personnel.

The court framed charges against the suspects pertaining to rioting, unlawfully assembly, damaging public vehicle, deterring police from discharging their duty and causing them hurt.

Robbery at Symbiosis hostel
Unidentified persons on Saturday stole two laptops, together valued at Rs50,000, from the Symbiosis boys’ hostel on its Vimannagar campus.

According to the Airport police, Amit Jaiprakash Choudhari (10) and his friend returned to their room after classes to find their door lock broken and their laptops missing.

Two-wheeler thief arrested
Zakir Ahmedali Ansari (33), a court peon who was suspended for vehicle theft from the court’s premises, was on Saturday arrested for another vehicle theft from Sassoon General Hospital. Ansari was arrested by the police a year back for stealing six 2-wheelers. He has been booked for similar offences by the Deccan Gymkhana, Kothrud and Vishrambaug police stations.
