A 23-year-old former watchman working at KPIT Cummins was on Tuesday arrested by the Hinjewadi police for making a bomb hoax call to the company on Monday morning.

When interrogated, he said he was fired within three days after joining the company and was denied salary. He made the hoax call to avenge it.

The suspect was identified as Kiran Vinayak Gaikwad, a resident of Bhumkar Vasti in Indapur. Gaikwad’s father owns a laundry in Indapur.

Senior police inspector Ganapat Madgulkar said, “Gaikwad made the call from a cellphone, which was traced to Anna Ramchandra Sutar, a resident of Bhumkar Vasti in Indapur. When our team visited Sutar, he revealed that he had lost his handset a year ago. He suspected that the handset might have been stolen by the laundry person, as he had forgotten it from his pocket. He neither lodged a police complaint nor requested the operator to block the SIM card.”

The police recovered five SIM cards from Gaikwad.

Deputy commissioner of police (zone III) Dnyaneshwar Chavan led the investigations in the case.

In October 2010, an engineer was arrested by the Chatuhshrungi police for posting a bomb hoax on the website of a private firm on Senapati Bapat Road. The company incurred losses of Rs80 lakh over the incident.
