A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team raided the houses of Brig (retd) MM Wanchoo and his son-in-law, Sanjay S Mehta in the city in connection with the Adarsh housing society scam. The CBI sleuths seized some documents, which they claimed were relevant and crucial.

Wanchoo was mentioned in the first information report (FIR) filed by the CBI as being instrumental in mooting the idea of the controversial housing society.

The CBI team, comprising six sleuths, reached Wanchoo’s house in Salunke Vihar, Kondhwa at 7 am. Wanchoo was not present, but his wife and a relative were on the premises. The raid lasted for more than six hours.

At 1.45 pm, a CBI officer, including a woman constable and Wanchoo’s wife and the relative went by car to the adjacent Clover Heights, where Mehta has a seventh-floor flat. The team left the flat at around 3 pm and made photocopies of some of the seized documents at a nearby shop.

Joint director of CBI, (western zone), Rishi Raj Singh, told DNA that the raids were carried out at multiple locations in Pune and Mumbai.

The CBI teams seized “incriminating” documents related to the case. “We have recovered relevant and crucial documents related to the Adarsh society scam that has been mentioned in the FIR filed by us,” he said.

The superintendent of CBI (ACB), Pune, Vidya Kulkarni told DNA, “On Sunday morning, we provided the CBI officers of the Mumbai branch two police sub-inspectors and a constable to assist them as per their request,” she said.
