Are online admissions a good move? Is 25% reservation for underprivileged children in schools justified? All such questions on education were answered at the Technovanza, annual festival of Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), which started on February 4 and ended on Sunday.

It has been organised as most of the students feel that they landed into engineering not out of choice but due to peer pressure and parents’ insistence.

Through Rachna, national-level educational conferences where students, parents and principals got together and came up with a charter on the best ideas to enhance the education system.

“Our syllabus is not designed to make us independent thinkers. Very few students have the clarity and understanding of choosing a career, analysing our strengths, interests, etc. We discussed how to upgrade our education system to create strong-minded individuals,” said Akshay Shetye, a third-year, electrical engineering student.

“So far complaints on education have been raised by all stake holders separately. Our charter has ideas that have come from everyone — teachers as well as students. It can help the government to know what the youth is thinking of education system,” said Priyam Vada, another student.

Also the festival showcased latest robotic inventions of the students. One of the interesting robots on display included Piranha, a robotic fish that can carry out under-water surveillance and can be used by the government for navigation, images and other data in the high seas.

Also, the students have designed a prototype of a floating city and sky city that can be developed to prepare a city which can survive floods and hurricanes.
