Owner of Star Jewellers located on the ground floor of Sukh Sagar building in Gamdevi got a shock on his birthday when a ‘dumb’ man stole his iPhone.
Sourabh Zaveri (47), owner of Star Jewellers located on the ground floor of Sukh Sagar building in Gamdevi got a shock on his birthday when a ‘dumb’ man stole his iPhone worth Rs40,000.
“The theft took place on November 12, my birthday. I was at my jewellery shop. The two servants were cleaning the jewellery and displaying it in the show case,” said Zaveri.
According to Zaveri, at around 11.15am, a man carrying a diary and piece of paper entered his cabin. Zaveri was busy talking on his mobile phone. “I was busy talking on my iPhone with my relatives who were wishing me for my birthday”, said Zaveri. After he finished his call, he kept his iPhone on the showcase.
Zaveri then asked the man what he wanted, but the man signalled that he was dumb and offered a handwritten piece of paper asking for donation. “I was so angry that I ordered him to leave my office at,” said Zaveri.
At around 11.40am, after Zaveri arranged the jewellery for display, he realised that his mobile phone was not on the showcase. “I suddenly remembered my iPhone. I was shocked when I found that it was not on the showcase where I had kept it,” he said.
Zaveri searched high and low in the entire shop with the help of his servants but couldn’t find his phone. He then tried calling his number but it was switched off.
When Zaveri checked the CCTV footage he saw that the ‘dumb’ man had picked up his iPhone and fled.
Zaveri lodged complaint of theft at the Gamdevi police station.
According to the CCTV footage from Zaveri’s shop, the conman is around 35-40 years old. He has a wheatish complexion and is of medium built. He was wearing a white shirt and purple trousers at the time of the theft.
“We have received a complaint of theft from Zaveri. We have kept his mobile phone’s IMEI number on tracking to nab the culprit. We also collected the CCTV footage from his shop,” said a police officer from the Gamdevi police station. He added that a manhunt for the thief has been launched.
