Having experienced all sorts of wayward offenders, one would think that the Mumbai police have pretty much seen it all.
But on Tuesday night, an inebriated tourist guide startled a constable by biting into his right leg calf in a police van at Nariman Point on Tuesday.
Not surprisingly, the tourist guide had bit off more than he could chew as his bizarre act left the police unamused and earned him a night in a jail cell.
“The tourist guide, Lokpal Kshatriya, 25, was booked under section 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to public servant for discharging his duty), IPC. His blood sample has been sent to GT hospital for testing,” said sub-inspector Sugreev Kadam of Marine Drive police station and added that the results of the blood test are being awaited.
Narrating the incident, the victim, head constable Sanjay Bansode, 47, of Marine Drive police station said, “I was on night duty at Marine drive police station’s mobile van on Tuesday night. While patrolling the area, I received a message from the main control room saying that a man was abusing and scuffling with a beat marshal at the Air India junction in Nariman Point.”
On receiving the message, the van rushed to the spot. Bansode said, “I noticed that the man was under the influence of alcohol and when I tried to intervene, he pushed me forcibly and I
fell on the ground. My four colleagues swung into action and bundled him into the van.”
On the way to the police station, Kshatriya suddenly turned violent and bit Bansode’s right leg calf. “He bit really hard and I immediately pushed him aside. My entire right leg was reeling with pain and subsequently my calf began to bleed,” said Bansode.
After the police handed over Kshatriya to the police station, Bansode was rushed to the GT Hospital where he was administrated medical care.
