In the backdrop of the growing number of accidents taking place on the Pune-Mumbai expressway, 55 policemen have been deployed by the highway police on a special drive to curb traffic violations. The drive will begin on Sunday.

The police have identified Palasdev, Borghat, Wadgaon and Khandala on the expressway for carrying out the drive. The teams will have 10 policemen each and headed by a police officer.

The superintendent of police (highway), Dilip Bhujbal said, “We had a meeting with the Indian Road Builders, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation and the rural police. Most drivers are using vehicles at high speed and change lanes abruptly. We are going to start a special drive from Sunday on the expressway.”

The policemen would be equipped with speed guns and video cameras and will check out the speed of the vehicles. “The police will find out how fast the vehicles go with speed guns and also capture images of lane violations. The images of particular vehicles will be sent to the next station."
