Don’t drag feet on projects, say Mumbai passengers

Passenger associations in Mumbai welcomed the railway budget, but said there should be a fixed time-frame within which to implement the manifesto.

“Big-ticket projects have been announced, but they should be implemented within time and not lag behind,” said Shailesh Goyal, former member of the National Railway Users Consultative Committee (NRUCC).

Subhash Gupta, an NRUCC member, said that the recommendation of the project implementation authority has remained on paper.

Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan stated that the railway budget had done justice to Mumbai, and its demands and promises would go a long way in realising the dream of complete Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR) connectivity.

Mumbai mayor Sunil Prabhu criticised the railway minister for raising the tariff, saying that the prices of the monthly and quarterly pass would go up and the common man would not be able to afford them.
