Rashes and itching in the ear for the entire year is what Manali Ruke had to suffer because of playing Holi last year. Manali, who works as a receptionist, had a forceful Holi with her friends as they threw loads of colour while she was refusing.

“A huge amount of colour was thrown on me and some of it entered my ear and stayed in there for long,” said Manali.

After two days of itching, Manali approached her doctor and came to know that the colour had caused rashes and infection in her ear for which she had to undergo a daily cleaning of for two weeks. A year has passed since, but she still has rashes in her ear.

Talking to DNA, Dr Seemab Shaikh, an ENT specialist said, “There is a fair chance of getting infections because of colours. So, it is advisable that people take precautions and rinse immediately as soon as any colour, dry or wet, enters ear, nose or throat. Asthama patients are advised to stay away from colour.”

Dermatologist, Dr Dhanashri Bhide, advises Holi lovers to use some moisturiser or oil to decrease the absorption capacity of the skin and to avoid rashes.

Ophthalmologist, Dr Vaijayanti Deodhar, said, “Avoid wearing contact lenses to stay away from corrosions on the cornea. A safe Holi is always better than to have any problems.”
