Concerned with the abysmal conditions of some of the police stations, the city police chief Arup Patnaik has ordered senior engineers to submit an audit report about the funds allocated to develop infrastructure.

He said that the funds meant for better constructed police stations would now be diverted for the betterment of stations that are in a bad shape.

“Ghatkopar, BKC, Juhu and Powai are well constructed, with facilities and good infrastructure, while we have police stations like Deonar, Trombay, Kurla Parksite and Kanjurmarg that lack proper infrastructure,” said Patnaik.

Patnaik has asked engineers to submit an audit report of the police stations, police quarters and police lines and tell him about what is required and how money can be used in a better way to beautify the underdeveloped police stations.

The commissioner has also instructed all the concerned deputy commissioners to ensure that the police stations are in good shape. “In a recent visit to the Malad and Bangur Nagar police stations, he saw there were unclaimed vehicles and seized goods lying in the premises. He took senior inspectors to task, following which the police stations were sanitised in a few days,” said deputy commissioner of police, operations, Rajkumar Vhatkar.
