Day after Mumbai woman leaps off building, husband held

The Samta Nagar police have arrested Mamta Jha’s husband, Mukesh, on charges of abetment to suicide after her brother Shankar alleged that he was harassing Mamta physically and mentally.

Mamta committed suicide on Tuesday by jumping off from 19th floor of Crimson tower, Lokhandwala in Kandivli (east).

She left suicide note in which she had mentioned that she was taking such a drastic step because she suspected that Mukesh was having an extra-marital affair.

Shankar came to Mumbai from Ghaziabad on Tuesday evening and registered a complaint against his brother-in-law. He alleged that his sister had called him several times and had told him that her husband harassed her physically and mentally.

Mamta also suspected that Mukesh was having an extra-marital affair due to which he did not pay any attention to her and his son Sanket” said sub inspector, Anil Survase, Samta Nagar police station.

“We have arrested Mukesh on the charge of abetment to suicide on the basis of the complaint registered by Shankar. We will also be questioning Mukesh’s parents to ascertain Shankar’s claims. Mukesh will be produced in court on Thursday,” said Survase.
