A man, accused of killing his wife, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court of additional sessions judge SG Mehare after his daughter deposed before the court.

Baban Rajaram Jagtap’s daughter Awadi, was the prime witness of her mother Chetana’s (32) murder by her father in July 2008. She was three-year-old at that time.

According to the assistant public prosecutor, Ujwala Pawar, Jagtap used to be suspicious of his wife’s character and used to harass her.

On July 15, 2008, Jagtap killed his wife by pushing her into a well located near their residence in Phursungi. Awadi witnessed the incident and Jagtap also attempted to throw her into the well. But an alert neighbour Amol Kisan Suryawanshi prevented Jagtap from throwing the girl into the well.

The convict urged the court to award him capital punishment but the court granted him life imprisonment for killing his wife and 10-year rigorous imprisonment for attempting to murder his daughter.
