In a bid to speed up the state administration, the Maharashtra government is planning to introduce a dashboard software for the chief minister and key officials.

This programme, available to the chief minister, chief secretary, secretaries of various departments and the district collectors, will deliver comprehensive information, from file movement to expenditure of the allocated budget, to their fingertips.

The Information Technology department made a presentation to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan late last week regarding the introduction of the software in the state administration. After a soft launch a few weeks ago, the full-fledged programme is expected to be allocated to the key officials in the next few weeks.

“The CM directed us to expand it to include minute details of districts, including maps and key destinations and elected representatives. We are preparing the framework for the utilisation of the programme which will later be implemented by the district collectors,” said Rajesh Agarwal, secretary, IT department.

The idea is to link various sites of the government departments and undertakings under this programme, to ensure that all the information is available a click away.

“The officials will now be able to get info about the allocation, release and expenditure of the funds meant for their departments or the districts. The movement of files, employees’ attendance, status of KRA, etc, will be easily accessible to the heads of state. At the same time, the CM will have info about the elective representatives - their bio-data, demography, etc during his visits to rural areas,” said an official from the CM’s office.

Maharashtra will be one of the few governments to introduce this technology, he said.

“The CM is very keen to introduce the software, which will help the administration in speeding up the file clearance procedure. The lower-level employees will always be under pressure to perform at a specified speed. This will help us improve the government’s performance,” added the official.
