The cyber cell police have been flooded with complaints from citizens who are receiving fake lottery calls from Pakistan in the recent past.

The deceptive emails have contents like information about winning a lottery, good job opportunity abroad, opportunity of investment in big companies, inviting membership of new institutes and others.

In some emails, the sender seeks personal information like bank account number, telephone number, passport number and other details.

A police officer attached with the cyber cell told DNA,  “After getting the information from the victim, the suspect gets in touch with email account holder constantly with telephonic communication or through email. Later, they lure people by sending photos and certificates and request account holders to deposit money in some accounts.’’

He added, “The suspects demand more and more money and they tell the account holder to keep the matter confidential.’’
Also, the cyber police have found a new trend that the suspects give missed calls to various people.

The officer said, “After giving a missed call, most of the people call back. Then, the suspects speak for about 15 to 20 minutes and then disconnects the phone. As a result, the receiver’s balance is reduced.’’

While asked about any possible terror threat call received, he said, “As of now, we haven’t received any such complaint.’’

Army soldier Bijesh Kumar, who was arrested by the Pune police on February 1 for alleged links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, had allegedly fallen into the trap of Pakistani fraudsters linked to the spy agency.

They had made fraudulent lottery winning calls to him on his cellphone.
