The crime branch (unit XII) officials arrested two contract killers who kidnapped 20-year-old Kaushik Jalawadia on Monday and strangled him to death and later dumped his body in dense forest at Aarey colony.

The arrested accused have been identified as Laxman Shettiyar, 22, and Yogesh Shettiyar alias Don, 22, are resident of Bandar Pakhadi in Kandivali (west). Laxman works in a cycle repair shop while Yogesh is an electrician. The duo were nabbed by one crime branch officer, Mangesh Surve at Dadar railway station when they were trying to flee from the city. Four accused had already arrested earlier in this case.

“One more accused of contract killer Raju Kaliya is still at large, but we will catch him soon.  Jalawadia was murdered over a family feud. After his brother-in-law, Bharat Nisar, died after falling in a well in Gujarat, Bharat's family suspected that Jalawadia pushed Bharat in the well,” said senior police inspector, Milind Khetale of crime branch unit XII. “Nitin and Yogini had given a contract of Rs4 lakh for killing Jalawadia and had paid Rs50,000 in advance” said Khetale.

The deputy commissioner of police Rajendra Dabhale informed all the police stations in zone XII to deploy vehicles in forest area across the zone to check all the people and vehicles, especially at night, to keep a check on crime in the area.

This is the second incident where a youth was killed in an isolated area and dumped in dense forest. Two months back four youths were brutally killed at night in the forest at Appapada, Malad.

“We have planned to deploy police patrol round the clock to avoid such incidents” said Dabhale.
