Couple dupes retired engineer of $2,50,000 in Pune

The Kothrud police filed a case against a couple in Karvenagar for allegedly duping a 75-year-old retired engineer of $2,50,000 by falsely promising him returns on his investment in a fruit processing industry.

The victim, Hari Bhaskar Kale, lodged a police complaint.

The police said Kale was a retired engineer from Switzerland and had returned to Pune recently.In 2004, Kale met Rajendra Kulkarni and his wife Medha, who ran a company Rajyog Enterprises.

“He was given an offer by the suspects to invest in a new fruit and pulses processing venture, Rose Enterprises. He was asked to invest $2, 50,000 and was assured a return of 6.5% profit per year. The couple promised him to pay half the amount back in four years and the rest in the fifth year,” the police said.

The couple resides in Patwardhanbagh in Karvenagar. They are yet to be arrested. Assistant SD Deshmukh of Kothrud police station said Joshi paid the money for some time.

“Initially the couple paid him but later they stopped paying him,” he said.
Deshmukh said that the police recorded Kale’s statement after he returned to Pune from Bangalore on Friday.
