Model-cum-actor Simran Sood’s photos with the who’s who from the cricketing and glamour world have prompted the police to probe the match-fixing angle in producer Karan Kakkar’s abduction case. Sood was arrested in connection with the case on Friday while Kakkar has been missing since March 5.

The police while investigating the case came across photos of Sood with high-profile cricketers, actors and businessmen. She was also in touch with some others from the crème de la crème of society and was a regular feature at parties organised for cricketers after matches. The police are probing if Kakkar and Sood were involved in fixing matches during the Indian Premier League.

“We are investigating Kakkar and Sood’s connection with cricketers. However, we cannot reveal much as finding Kakkar is our priority,” said Pratap Dighavkar, deputy commissioner of police, zone 9. Sources said Sood often befriended cricketers at parties. “We are trying to find out if the model attended parties to fix matches,” said a police officer from the Amboli police station.

DNA on Sunday published photos of Sood with international cricketers and actor Kay Kay Menon. “We have no clue about their involvement in match-fixing as Kakkar and Sood did not discuss anything with us,” said Haneesh Kakkar, brother of the missing producer. “I am just waiting for my brother to return home.”

During investigation, the police also found that the model-cum-actor was in touch with South Mumbai-based stock broker Gautam Vora who was questioned multiple times by the Khar police after his girlfriend, supermodel Viveka Babajee, committed suicide in her rented flat at Carter Road in June 2010. Sood’s mobile records reveal that she exchanged maximum messages with Vora. “We will be calling Vora for questioning as we have found that Sood and he were in regular touch. We first need to find Kakkar though,” said Dighavkar.

The police on Sunday found a BMW belonging to Kakkar in Pune. The police claim it was parked by Vijay Palande and Dhananjay Shinde who were arrested last week in connection with the murder of senior citizen Arun Tikku in Oshiwara. Sood was an accomplice of Palande and was used by him as a honeytrap, according to the police.
