The decision to close public places like schools and cinemas has helped to bring swine flu under control, Maharashtra health minister said today.

"Shutting schools, colleges and multiplexes restricted spread of H1N1 in Pune and it will be the same in Mumbai," health minister Rajendra Shingane told reporters here.

The government would soon decide on extending the closure period of schools, he said. The state government on August 12 ordered the closure of schools in Mumbai for a week.

Altogether 12,813 people were screened in the state today and 912 were given Tamiflu tablets, Shingane said, adding in Mumbai, 2,895 were screened and so far 185 have tested positive.
