As many as 939 candidates are in the fray for the 122 seats of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections.
After the scrutiny of nomination papers, 1,393 applications were considered valid. Of these 1,393, 454 candidates withdrew their papers on Saturday.
The feud among the candidates and rebels came to the fore on Saturday evening when NCP candidate Gajanan Shelar and Sanjay Chavan, rebel candidate who is contesting as an Independent, came face to face with their activists while campaigning in ward 54B, Main Road. A verbal brawl soon turned violent. The police intervened immediately and brought the situation under control.
