The Bund Garden police have refused to provide
security cover to citizen facilitation centre (CFC) at the district collectorate, despite repeated requests from the authorities.  In absence of police protection the female officers at the CFC have been targeted by demonstrators in the past.

The police on their part have cited ‘staff crunch’ as the reason for turning down the request.

Located on the premises of the district collectorate, the CFC witnesses long queues of aspirants for getting important certificates like domicile certificate, income and caste certificates among others. During the admission season in May and June the CFC sees a huge rush of aspirants.

On Thursday, activists of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had made Deepa Bhosale, the tehshildar of the CFC, the target of their ire. MNS activists led by Ranjit Shirole forcibly entered her cabin and staged a sit-in for issuing a forged affidavit.

Similarly two months ago, a group of aggrieved citizens had created a ruckus and had almost come to blows with a female staff of the CFC. However, timely intervention by Bhosale had averted any untoward incident.

Concerned with the rising trend of such incidents, the tehshildar had written to the senior inspector of Bund Garden police station asking for deputation of a police constable at the CFC during the admission season.

“It is almost two months since we sent the letter through the office of the collector but we have not received any response,” Bhosale said.

When contacted, senior inspector Suhas Nadgauda said, “There are 151 government offices in Pune. If we provide protection to all the offices, we will not be able to provide any protection to the general public.”
