While Central Railway on Thursday claimed that it had begun preliminary work for construction of a foot over-bridge at Vikhroli as per schedule, residents who met divisional officials claimed otherwise.

Residents who met CR’s officer on special duty Ved Prakash said that Prakash told them that work on the project had to be stopped as a water drain had been found at the location.

In a press release, the railways have sent a photograph of a pit which had been dug for the purpose but now abandoned.

“At the meeting in the office of Ved Prakash on January 17, we informed him that the January 15 deadline had gone and we have not seen the any start on the bridge. Prakash told us that on platform number 1 there is a drain

that was obstructing work and hence had to be stopped,” Terence D’Souza of the Bombay Catholic Sabha, who is leading the agitation said.

“We have also provided Prakash documents showing that when 12.5 m of land had been reserved for railways, only three m has been acquired so far,” he said.

“We had begun the project and work will be completed as per schedule,” CR spokesperson Ashok Kumar Singh said.
