Like many of us in 2012, I wear many hats. I work full time and am a single mother. However, no matter how busy I am (I have my first work call at 5am) I work out six days a week for at least 30 minutes.

There is no quick fix to remain strong, fit and healthy. It takes determination, encouragement and commitment but I am resolute that each and every one of us can make time…not only for ourselves but to ensure we live long and fruitful lives for our kids.
I have a seven-year-old daughter. I have both the desire and ability to see her and perhaps my grandchildren bloom into happy and healthy human beings.

I have had a cancer scare. And I have gluten intolerance. I struggle to put on weight — a problem as great as carrying too much weight. Fitness for me, goes deeper than how I look, it empowers my mind. If I can discipline myself to work out every day I can discipline myself to do almost anything.

And been strong, fit and healthy gets me through all the challenges that I have and will face. Sure, there are days when I lack the motivation. But then, I look back on what I have achieved despite the odds.

I mix my workout programme daily. I run, swim, skip rope (if I am travelling) or cycle every day. I have even danced to MTV in a hotel room alone whilst travelling for work when time did not allow me to hit the pavement or the gym. Often I exercise while my daughter is doing her homework with me. She doesn’t find it odd anymore.

I do not advocate my programme to most people. They just couldn’t do this day in, day out. So tailor a workout regime that suits your lifestyle. Join a gym, dance around the house or go for a brisk walk with a friend but make sure you do it every single day.
When I am fit I am a better mother. I can take the demands of my hectic lifestyle and job in my stride and I give my best to the world.
Live well…last longer!
