One of the three accused arrested in connection with the murder of a Delhi-based businessman at his apartment in suburban Mumbai has told a magistrate's court that he wanted to confess to the crime, police said.

Former gangsters Vijay Palande, Dhananjay Shinde and Manoj Gajkosh were apprehended by police from from different locations on Tuesday for allegedly killing 62-year-old Arunkumar Tikku, to grab his flat.

Tikku was found murdered in the bathroom of his first floor apartment in plush Lokhandwala Complex late on Saturday night. The sexagenarian bore six to eight stab wounds in his abdomen and a computer cord was found tied around his neck, police had said.

According to police, hours before the killing, Tikku's actor son Anuj was taken to Goa on the pretext of visiting a casino by Palande, while Shinde and Gajkosh executed the pre-planned murder.

Shinde told the magistrate's court today that he wanted to confess to the killing. Taking his willingness on record, the court granted him time till April 13  to rethink and remanded him in judicial custody.

Palande, who reportedly escaped from the police custody and was later arrested, told the court that he had been falsely implicated in the case, saying he rather helped the police in investigation.

The court also took on record Palande's allegation that he was assaulted and asked the police to take him to hospital and submit his medical report on Thursday.

Palande and Gajkosh were remanded in police custody till April 23, while Shinde in judicial custody.

According to police, Palande befriended the victim's son Anuj a couple of years ago, apparently with an intention to takeover the plush apartment. Anuj's father merged three flats into one to form the apartment.

For Palande, arrival of Anuj's father from Delhi early last week was unexpected, they said.

Police said, Palande had even made Anuj sign a two year lease and license agreement with an unidentified German woman last month.

Police suspect that Shinde and Gajkosh brutally murdered Tikku when Palande took Anuj to Goa in his Mercedes Benz on the fateful day.
